Funny Sarah-ism's

One night when we had company over for dinner Sarah said the blessing on the food.

" . . . and we're thankful that these customers could come have dinner with us . . ."

After the prayer, the husband said, "Hmm, I didn't know we were customers!"


While standing in line at the department store in the mall, I turned around to see Sarah grabbing a purple bra off the rack and pulling it across her chest while she announced to me, the salesclerk, and all the other ladies in line, "Look at me, I'm a mommy!"


Sarah loves to watch Daddy shave. One morning she informed him that mommies shave too, with PINK razors. She had seen one in a magazine and asked me about it. " . . . because mommies have whiskers on their legs, Daddy."

Emotional Roller Coaster

Ever since Sarah's 4th birthday she's been an emotional roller coaster! So for all of you experienced moms out there of girls, do the hormones kick in at 4? Is this just all part of being a girl? I don't remember going through this until I was 12?

County Fair

I don't know if I've ever been to a county fair, and frankly when my sisters-in-law wanted to go, my expectations were VERY low! I just thought of all the money I'd end up spending on lame activities. Well now I'm happy to say that I was terribly wrong! We went to the fair, stayed busy all morning and spent a total of $1! Yep, just $1 for me and my kids combined! And that $1 was for parking! There were pony rides, the prize winning hens, roosters and bunnies to see, a science tent with live tarantulas, scorpions and pythons to hold, touch, and look at, and the most wonderful petting zoo I've ever seen! The kids got to pet real, live bulls with enormous horns! Jonah thought he was in heaven neighing and mooing at all of the horses and cows! AND everything was free, including entrance! Here are some pictures of yet another Fun Friday!

Jonah and Jacob on the pony rides. Jonah, of course, threw a fit when his turn was over! He LOVED it!

Sarah and Jacob got to brush a cow! The poor cow had kids climbing all over her all day and got brushed so much I'm surprised she had any hair left TO brush! The animals they had there must be really old!

Jacob and Sarah got to experiment with some pulleys to see if weight distribution made a difference in lifting heavy cement blocks! What fun times!

And can you believe they even had a tent where you paid extra to see the "freak shows?" They had a 1100 pound pig and a horse less than 24 inches tall! Isn't that the kind of thing they did in the 1800's on Little House on the Prairie? I have to admit that I wanted to take a peak, but I hadn't brought any cash with me! Oh well! Maybe next year!

Temple Square Fun Friday

I'm sure you're getting tired of my posts of our Fun Friday's by now, but too bad! There's more coming! It makes me feel like at least I did SOMETHING fun with the kids this summer! I'm not a completely boring mom! And when they accuse me of boredom one day, I'll pull these posts out and say, "Here! Look! We DID have some fun!"

So a couple of weeks ago our Fun Friday group got a little divided by age appropriate activities! Kimber and I took our little one's to Temple Square for the morning! It was a beautiful day and the kids had a blast!

The 4 oldest kids were obsessed with the fountains and water around Temple Square! Boy, the simple things sure make life for Kimber and me easy when they're so entertaining!

Our prophet, President Thomas S. Monson, once counseled, “as we touch the temple, the temple will touch us.” Jacob, Sarah and Jonah loved being able to "touch the temple!"

Sarah's 4th Birthday!!!

Last month Sarah turned 4 years old! Sarah makes everything so much fun because she's just so happy to have any attention! And to have a day all for her made her deliriously happy! She LOVED watching me decorate her cake. She LOVED making decorations and hanging them up around the house! She LOVED choosing the meals of her favorite foods to eat! And she LOVED her party and all the gifts she received! It's so fun to do things for Sarah because she has no expectations, she's just happy with whatever she gets! We absolutely love our only little girl! She's smart, happy, my favorite shopping partner, helpful, and so loving! What a blessing she is to our family!

We started the day by having her favorite breakfast, blueberry muffins with scrambled eggs! Then her cousins, Emma and Samuel, came over to play. The kids worked hard helping me make decorations for Sarah's party! That afternoon I made Sarah's cake, and Sarah and I decorated for her party! And after her choice of dinner of tomato soup and grilled cheese we got ready for her party!

Sarah got some wonderful gifts including this Belle doll from Grandma and Grandpa! (I should have taken a picture of her with ALL of her gifts at the same time, but that would require organization and thinking ahead . . . both of which I lack during these busy events! :) Sarah also received the minivan for her dollhouse dolls from Nanny and Papa, magnetic paper dolls from Aunt Kristen, and a Cinderella Pollypocket from Uncle Justin and Aunt Amy!

Mommy and Daddy gave her this big girl bike so that she's not doomed to days of riding boys' hand-me-down bikes. Her brothers gave her a bike helmet!

Mommy and Sarah with her pink pony cake! (I have to admit that birthday cake making is a dreaded chore of mine. My sisters-in-law set a VERY high standard! But this pony was probably one of the easiest and least stressful cakes I've made yet!)

Papa took Sarah for a birthday ride in his Model A! What a wonderful day for a wonderful girl! We love you, Sarah!

Pioneer Day

I LOVE Pioneer Day in Utah! It's like having another 4th of July! And it's my birthday! My husband gets off work, we play all day, and my in-law's provide us with all 3 meals . . . which means NO cooking for me! Who could ask for a better birthday?

We started off my birthday with an early small-town community breakfast. Then we head off for the parade!

My in-law's love to buy everyone matching flag shirts every year from Old Navy! All 25 of us! Here's most of us (minus 1 family) at the parade!

After the parade we go to Roosters for lunch! Yum!

The kids all got wikky sticks at the restaurant. Sarah made glasses with her's!

After lunch Brandon took the kids with most of the family to a Fort for live music and fun. I took Jonah home for a nap. Later that night we had a barbecue and fireworks in the driveway! It was a great day and a fabulous birthday!
